Crowns from your Port Coquitlam General Dentist
A dental crown is a restorative cap that is placed around an existing tooth or dental implant and bonded. They are often used when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth, or when a tooth needs to be restored after it has been cracked or broken.
In order to prepare a crown for use, your Port Coquitlam dentist, Dr. Chahl, will need to take an impression from your mouth and use it to have the crown crafted. You will typically need to come back for another Oxford Family Dental appointment to have the crown bonded to your teeth.
Crowns are created to match the colour, shape, and size of your existing teeth for a flawless finish. The average lifespan of a crown is approximately 10 years, after which it will need to be replaced.
If you are in need of a dental crown, please contact your Port Coquitlam dental practice, Oxford Family Dental, today.
Bridges from your Port Coquitlam General Dentist
A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. It is affixed to healthy teeth on either side of your missing teeth and provides a seamless continuation of your tooth line. A bridge is made out of composite resin. It is permanent and cannot be removed.
Before a bridge can be prepared for you, you must have a consultation with your Port Coquitlam general dentist. Together, you can discuss the best options for your oral health care from Oxford Family Dental. When it is selected as the best step forward for you, this is how a bridge is prepared:
Your dentist will file down the two healthy teeth on either side of your missing tooth or teeth. (If you don’t have healthy teeth to support a bridge, you may need dental implants, which is another procedure).
Your Port Coquitlam general dentist will make a model of your teeth by taking impressions. This is used to make the artificial teeth and two crowns as one piece (a bridge).
A temporary bridge will be placed in your mouth while the bridge is being made to protect your gumline. At your next visit, the temporary bridge will be removed and the custom bridge will be cemented to your healthy teeth.
