ORTHODONTICS & INVISALIGN

Depending on the complexity and severity of the problem or the combination of problems to be treated, Invisalign aligners can be used individually or combined with braces. Invisalign can be used for treating the following dental problems.

Here are some of the cases Invisalign Can Treat

OVERBITE

An overbite is when your upper teeth are positioned too far forward in front of the bottom teeth when you close your mouth. It can cause difficulty while chewing and biting food. In mild cases of overbite, Invisalign can be used to move teeth to align them in the correct position.

Invisalign® For Overbite

UNDERBITE

An underbite is when the bottom teeth are in front of the upper teeth and are unable to contact properly when the mouth is closed. This can cause rapid tooth wear as well as impede proper speech. Invisalign can position the lower teeth back so they are more naturally positioned behind the front teeth.

In moderate cases of underbite, braces may be combined with Invisalign. Severe underbites can’t be treated with Invisalign.

Invisalign® For Underbite

CROSSBITE

A crossbite is the upper teeth that are inclined toward the inner side of the lower teeth rather than outside. Invisalign can be used to correct the teeth positioning and treat a crossbite.

GAPS IN TEETH

An excessive gap between teeth is not only aesthetically unpleasing but can cause food impaction between teeth and gums, leading to pain and gum disease. Per arch, Invisalign can reliably close up to 6mm of space. For larger gaps, Invisalign has to be combined with braces as a part of the treatment plan.

OPEN BITE

When upper and lower teeth don’t meet on closing the mouth, (can be due to an occlusal interference). An open bite can be fixed by an Invisalign by aligning upper and lower teeth into their respective correct positions so they can meet and close properly.

CROWDED OR CROOKED TEETH

Due to a lack of sufficient space to accommodate all teeth in the jaw, the teeth end up twisted and overlapping each other. This is known as crowding and can lead to gum disease due to the lack of proper access to maintain oral hygiene.

Invisalign® For Crowded Teeth

For molars, Invisalign is able to rotate the teeth no more than 20 degrees. The degree of rotation can be more for canines, premolars, and incisors. For mild to moderate cases of crooked and crowded teeth, Invisalign can be a viable treatment option.

To correct alignment, teeth might have to be forward or backwards tilted. A tilt below 45 degrees is easy for Invisalign to employ.

After the initial consult with your orthodontist, a treatment plan is devised according to the problems that need to be fixed. If you are a candidate for Invisalign, intraoral digital scans are taken by your dentist which is then sent to fabricate customized clear aligners. These aligners are custom-made to apply pressure on specific teeth to move them into place, and are replaced after every two weeks or so.
